Do you like Onigiri?

Comments

adobo onigiri, saikou! ^^,,
Bentou has really spread, yes. Even all the way to Scandinavia :)

I usually make my onigiris with wasabi, tuna and mayonnaise. Sometimes just plain like that either with or without the nori strip, and sometimes I fry them (yaki onigiri) which makes them even more tasty :D
Sometimes I like to mix my rice with some nori furikake, and then mold it. Then I put a strip of teriyaki nori on it...delicious!

i'm not much of a rice eater but if it's Japanese food especially when it's califonia maki, I eat so much... and I don't know why... they're just so delicious.

Bagoong and Pork (or should I call it just bagoong?) might be good for onigiri too :)

"tuna and mayonnaise (we call it tuna-mayo) onigiri" is also very popular here. Wasabi flavored onigiri attracts some "not that young people (like me)" but younger ones. I just wonder if you guys there can have/taste real and raw wasabi.

Furikake is really nice for onigiri! I usually keep some kinds of furikake in my kitchen cabinet.

Have you ever tried to make some makis at home? Give it a try if you haven't. Unlike nigiri-zushi, it's not that tough to make even by non-pro sushi chef like us. Some families enjoy maki (-zushi) home party in Japan. Besides, Cali rolls won't be seen at any *real* sushibars here. You know why...

Hm, not sure if we have it here. I haven't really looked for the real stuff. I usually just buy wasabi on a tube :P Works for me! Hehe. But, if I get the chance, I'll try out raw wasabi when I'm in Japan this summer :D

Ohayou gozaimasu Julie san.

Check out some pictures of raw wasabi at Wikimedia Commons: Wasabi

Most of us use and have wasabi paste tube at home today, though it used to be powder made of dried wasabi before. Real and raw ones are served at high class sushibars and such only due to its price/cost. But you can see and buy raw wasabi at supermarkets here too.

Wasabi grows in places with clean water and cool (not cold) climate, Izu region (Izu peninsula in Shizuoka prefecture) is famous with wasabi farms. Although I haven't tried by myself, there's wasabi wine exists too. Give a try to have beef steak with wasabi, it's also very nice.
